It tells the story of the Newman family who is torn apart by divorce through the eyes of Karen, the middle pre-teen child. This novel not only shows the effects that the parents disagreements have on the kids, but it shows how difficult it is when one parent decides to leave for good. Karen feels like her world is coming undone and has angered on the idea of marriage. In her journal, she gives each day a letter grade; lately, her days have not been graded higher than a C minus.
